Trip Schedule

Arrive at Waitomo Glowworm Caves Visitor Centre (39 Waitomo Village Rd) 15–20 minutes prior to departure for check-in.

Meet your expert guide and begin the guided walking tour through 250 metres of spectacular limestone cave formations.

Descend past the Tomo (shaft) into the Cathedral cavern to admire its incredible natural acoustics.

04

Board a silent boat for a peaceful glide along the underground Waitomo River.

05

Gaze up at thousands of luminous glowworms illuminating the dark ceiling of the Glowworm Grotto.

06

Disembark at the cave exit and return to the visitor centre, completing the 45-minute tour.

Please present your electronic confirmation voucher at the ticket kiosk inside the Visitor Centre at 39 Waitomo Village Rd to exchange for physical boarding tickets. Please arrive at least 15–20 minutes before your booked tour time.

Please wear a warm jacket and comfortable, non-slip walking shoes (paths can be damp and slippery). Infant Entry: Infants aged 0–3 are free of charge, but an Infant Ticket MUST be added to the booking for capacity count.

Q: Can I take photos or record videos inside the Waitomo Glowworm Caves? Q: Is the Waitomo Glowworm Caves tour suitable for visitors with wheelchairs or strollers? Q: What happens if underground river water levels are too high?

A: No. Photography and video recording (including smartphones, GoPros, and cameras) are strictly prohibited inside the cave system to protect the glowworms and ensure guest safety in the dark. A: The Glowworm Cave includes stairs and paved paths with handrails, but is NOT wheelchair accessible. Strollers and pram carry-ons are also not recommended inside. (For wheelchair accessibility, please consider Ruakuri Cave). A: If natural conditions (such as high water levels) cause the boat ride to be shortened or unavailable, partial refunds will be calculated based on retail rates and subject to official operator confirmation.
